How Roblox improved performance to help grow Chromebook DAUs by 75%

By optimizing for ChromeOS, Roblox is helping ensure that their vision of global connection can reach millions of players in the Chromebook ecosystem.

Aligned with its vision, Roblox wanted to give its Android mobile users more ways to enjoy the platform on larger screens. ChromeOS partnered with the Roblox team to help optimize the gaming experience across the full range of ChromeOS hardware.

Improving performance up to 99% with a native x86 build

By releasing a native x86 build for ChromeOS, Roblox improved performance on Chromebooks by up to 99%.

Roblox further refined the x86 version by implementing two high-impact technical optimizations:

• Improving Time-to-Interactive (TTI): By optimizing the startup sequence and caching flags, Roblox significantly reduced the time it takes for players to jump into a game.
• Smarter rendering and stability: To combat Out-of-Memory (OOM) crashes on entry-level hardware, Roblox introduced adaptive rendering techniques. By reducing the field-of-view and graphics fidelity when system resources like CPU or memory are low, they achieved higher stability across all Chromebook devices.

From June 2024 to June 2025, Roblox saw a 75% increase in Chromebook daily active users (DAUs) and a significant boost to Chromebook player retention.
