Each year, the Google Play Billing Library is upgraded to a higher version, impacting developers who list their application in the Google Play Store.
If you’re a developer using Play Billing in TWA through the Digital Goods API, or have used Bubblewrap to put your PWA in the Play store, the following changes will affect you.
Effective Aug 31, 2024, version 6 of the Google Play Billing Library will be required to update existing applications or list new applications in the Google Play store. We’ve upgraded the Digital Goods API and Android Browser Helper to Google Play Billing Library 6 to help you update your app.
If you are using Bubblewrap, you can do this by updating to the latest version (v1.22.0) then rebuilding your app and publishing an update. If you’re using the Android Browser Helper directly, update its version in your dependencies then rebuild your app and publish an update:
If you’re not able to make the necessary changes by Aug 31, 2024, you can request an extension until Nov 1, 2024 through the extension form available on the details page of the warning or the issue on the Policy status page in Play Console. If you’re still using an out of date Play Billing Library version, you'll receive a warning and an inbox message in Play Console.
